Welcome to the Hertford and District U3A, a lively and friendly association offering a wide range of study and leisure activities for those whose days are no longer tied to earning a living.
U3A stands for University of the Third Age; the word University is used in its original meaning of groups of people with common interests - not necessarily intellectual. There is no absolute minimum age for joining, and no maximum either, and no pre-qualifications are required.
Learning with the U3A
The U3A approach to learning is - learning for pleasure. U3As provide opportunities for members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning, not for qualifications, but for fun - no exams, no certificates or diplomas, just a small group of friends getting together to learn something new.
Interest Groups
Interest Groups are at the heart of the U3A and what U3As provide reflects the wishes of the members. Most groups are self-led; it is the members who organise the meetings, and either teach each other, or help each other to learn.
Hertford and District U3A has a wide range of groups; there are over a hundred and forty study, creative or leisure interest groups meeting regularly. In addition there are theatre trips, study days, visits to gardens and other places of interest as well as a monthly meeting with a specialist lecture. Join in to meet new friends with common interests. Click on the Groups link for a full list
